2v1 Dribbling with Opposition
Two attackers work up a split grid against one live defender and go at the goal — the player on the ball deciding every touch, dribble or pass.
A 2v1 puts the real decision in front of the player with the ball — take the defender on the dribble or use the free teammate — and forces them to choose.

- Grab: Cones, balls, and your full-size goal with a keeper — or a Pugg goal in place of both.
- Build: Build a 30-by-15 grid and split it in half with cones — two adjacent grids touching on one side.
- Place: Two attackers on one side of the grid, the goal and keeper on the opposite end line, and a single defender on the side of the middle line.

One thing to remember: Deciding when to dribble and when to pass, with close control, change of direction, and change of pace against a live defender.
How it runs — the whole game in one sentence
The first pass wakes the defender — who can only defend in the first grid — and the two attackers take them on and go score, deciding on every touch, dribble or pass.
1Organize the players▾
Coach does
Set two attackers on one side of the grid, put the keeper in the goal on the opposite end line, and place the single defender on the side of the middle line.
Coach says
Two of you attack this way. One defender at the halfway line — keeper, you're in.
2Show the jobs▾
Coach does
Walk the start — the first attacking player plays to the second, and the moment that pass is made the defender becomes active. The defender is only allowed to defend in the first grid. The attackers take the defender on and attempt to score, and whoever is in control must decide whether to pass or dribble.
Coach says
Your first pass starts it. Defender — your half only. Attackers — beat them and go score. Ball-carrier, it's your call: dribble or pass.
3Play▾
Coach does
Run the reps. Watch the decision first — a good choice to pass, dribble, or shoot — then the close control, the change of direction, and the change of pace.
Coach says
Read the defender — is this your dribble, or your teammate's ball?
Look for: The decision — the player in control choosing pass or dribble off what the defender gives them, not by habit.
4Switch and repeat▾
Coach does
Send the next attackers in and rotate a new defender to the middle line, so everyone gets reps on the ball and reps defending.
Coach says
Next two, come get it — new defender in the middle!
If it's not working
If the ball-carrier forces the dribble into the defender every time, freeze one rep and ask what the defender is giving them — the lane or the pass — then play on.
