Traffic Jam Dribbling Game
Four teams race dribblers through a jungle of cones and sticks in the middle at the same time — thread it clean, dribble to the facing line, and send the next racer flying.
This one is just outright fun — built for kids who can already dribble but need their heads up, dribbling under the pressure of pure congestion.
Set up · 3 actions · before the kids arrive
- Grab: Cones for the grid, the tall cones and practice sticks — flags work as well — and one ball per team.
- Build: Build a grid about 30 by 30 yards and randomly scatter the tall cones and sticks through the middle — that's the traffic jam.
- Place: One team on each corner of the grid, one ball per team, first player ready.

One thing to remember: Dribbling with the head up through congestion — looking ahead and keeping the ball close under the pressure of traffic.
How it runs — the whole game in one sentence
First players race through the traffic jam without hitting a stick, a cone, or each other, dribble fast to the facing line, and pass to its first player — who takes off next.
1Organize the players▾
Coach does
Split into four even teams and send one to each corner of the grid, one ball per group. First player in each line stands ready with it.
Coach says
Four teams, four corners — one ball each. First racer, toe on the line.

Coach does
Walk the run — through the traffic jam without touching a stick, a cone, or another player, then dribble with speed to the line you're facing and pass to their first player, who attacks the jam right away. Don't keep score at first — just let them enjoy the close calls.
Coach says
Through the jungle without hitting anything, race to the line across from you, and pass it off — their first player goes right away!
3Play▾
Coach does
Run it — all four dribblers enter the middle at the same time, so hold them to heads up and the ball in close. No score yet; the close calls are the fun.
Coach says
Heads up in the jam — look ahead, keep it close!
Look for: Heads up in the middle — four dribblers crossing at once, looking ahead of them instead of down at the ball.
4Switch and repeat▾
Coach does
After 8 to 10 minutes, combine the two teams facing each other into one team and race — through the jam, around the cone on the opposite side of the grid, and back through. Each player sits down as they finish, and the first team with everyone sitting wins.
Coach says
New game — through the jam, around the far cone, and back. Done? Sit down fast — first team all sitting wins!
If it's not working
If the middle turns into a pileup, send just one or two racers into the jam at a time — then build back up to all four at once.
Want to go deeper? Optional — not needed to run the game.

What are they learning?
How can I change it?
Easier: Start younger players with only one or two entering the traffic jam at a time.
