3v3 to Goals
Three-a-side to a goal on each end line, with a fresh player rotating in for each team every minute or two — high-energy, game-like, and everyone plays.
Small numbers in a small space have every player attacking, defending, and deciding constantly — teamwork and fitness built through constant movement in a real game.
Set up · 3 actions · before the kids arrive
- Grab: Cones, pinnies for one team, plenty of balls, and your goals.
- Build: Build a 20-by-30 field with a goal on each end line — cones, practice sticks, or a small goal all work.
- Place: Three players per team on the field, each team defending a goal; substitutes wait near you and the ball supply.

One thing to remember: Attacking and defending in small spaces — quick decision-making, support and movement off the ball, defensive organization and communication, transition play both ways, and finishing under pressure.
How it runs — the whole game in one sentence
Two teams of three attack opposite goals — a kickoff or your pass-in starts play, and every minute or two one player per team rotates off for a fresh one.
1Organize the players▾
Coach does
Divide into two teams, yellow and blue, and assign each a goal to defend. Three per team take the field; the rest wait with you by the balls.
Coach says
Yellows this goal, blues that one. Three on for each team — subs, stay by me and stay ready.

Coach does
Start play with a kickoff or your pass-in. The teams compete 3v3 — score in theirs, protect yours. After 1 to 2 minutes, rotate one player from each team off and a fresh one on to keep legs fresh. With 12 or more players, run a second 3v3 field and rotate whole teams every 3 to 4 minutes.
Coach says
Kickoff — play! When I call a switch, one off, one on — sprint it, the game doesn't stop.
3Play▾
Coach does
Let the game teach. Watch for quick decisions in attack and defense, movement off the ball that creates passing options and space, defenders communicating and working as a unit, fast transitions in both directions, and quick, accurate shots when the chance shows.
Coach says
Move without it — give them somewhere to pass! Shot's there — take it!
Look for: Support off the ball — players moving to create a passing option and space instead of watching the ball-carrier.
4Switch and repeat▾
Coach does
Keep the rotations quick so playtime stays equal. For later rounds — an extra point for a goal scored after three passes in a row, or goals only count from inside a shooting zone you mark.
Coach says
New round — three passes before the goal makes it worth double!
If it's not working
If it collapses into one tired clump chasing the ball, stretch the field a few steps while they play — space brings the passing options back.
Want to go deeper? Optional — not needed to run the game.

Harder: Two-touch only, weak-foot shots, or man-marking — every player responsible for one opponent at all times.
