2v2 with 4 Small Goals Funino

Pairs jump on for quick 2v2 duels with two goals to attack and two to defend — score or let the ball die, and the next pairs fly on.

Two goals each way make the pairs find space and pick the better option — combination play going forward, communication and cover going back, and finishing under pressure in between.

Set up · 3 actions · before the kids arrive

  1. Grab: Cones, pinnies for one team, four small goals, and a large supply of balls.
  2. Build: Build a 20-by-30 grid with two small goals on each end line.
  3. Place: Yellow team outside the grid between the two goals it defends, blue team the same on the other end — and you at the midline with the balls.
Show me the setup pictureA 20-by-30 grid with two small goals on each end line, both teams waiting outside between their own goals, and the coach at the midline with the ball supply.

One thing to remember: Small-group play — combination passing, movement, and 1-2s, defensive communication and covering space, quick pass-dribble-shoot decisions, scanning for the better goal, and quick transitions between attack and defense.

How it runs — the whole game in one sentence

You play a ball in, two from each team step on and duel 2v2 for either far goal — a goal or a dead ball sends both pairs off and brings the next ones on.

  1. 1Organize the players

    Coach does

Split into two teams, yellow and blue, and stand each outside the grid between the two goals it defends. Take the midline with the large supply of balls.

    Coach says

Yellows between your goals, blues between yours. First two from each team — be ready to jump.

  2. 2Show the jobs

    Coach does

Walk it — you play a ball onto the field, two players from each team step on, and they compete 2v2. Each pair attacks the two goals across from them and protects its own two. A goal or a ball out of play ends the round; both pairs return to their team's starting area and the next set enters.

    Coach says

My ball rolls in — two on from each side. Score in either far goal. Ball dies, you're off, next pair on.

  3. 3Play

    Coach does

Keep the balls coming so the rounds stay quick. Watch for combination play — passing, movement, and 1-2s — defenders talking and covering space together, quick pass-dribble-shoot decisions, attackers scanning to find the easier goal, and fast defensive recovery the moment possession flips.

    Coach says

Two goals — which one's open? Talk back there, cover for each other!

Look for: Scanning — attackers lifting their eyes to pick the easier of their two goals instead of forcing the nearest one.

  4. 4Switch and repeat

    Coach does

Cycle the pairs until everyone has played multiple rounds. For a running competition, track total team goals across the rounds.

    Coach says

Same game — but now every goal counts toward your team's total!

If it's not working

If both attackers keep forcing the same crowded goal, freeze it and ask — which of your two goals is open right now? Let them answer, then play on.

Want to go deeper? Optional — not needed to run the game.

Why are we doing this?
Two goals to attack and two to defend keep every decision live — find space, combine or shoot, cover together — and the short rounds with fresh pairs keep the format fast-paced, engaging, and game-like.
What are they learning?
Small-group play — combination passing, movement, and 1-2s, defensive communication and covering space, quick pass-dribble-shoot decisions, scanning for the better goal, and quick transitions between attack and defense.
How can I change it?

Harder: Limit players to three touches, demand a goal inside 10 seconds, allow weak-foot finishes only, or start the defenders closer to the ball.
