Combination Play Through the Central Midfielders
The ball works corner to corner of a grid, but every trip runs through the central midfielders — pass, approach the next corner, and the combination rolls on.
Combination play through the central midfielders is the habit here — crisp, accurate passes to feet with good pace, and runs timed to meet them.

How it runs — the whole game in one sentence
The ball works corner to corner through the central midfielders — pass, move toward the next corner, and the combination repeats around the grid.
1Organize the players▾
Coach does
Put a player on each of the four corners of the grid and set the central players along the sidelines as the diagram shows. The ball starts with a corner player.
Coach says
Corners are home base — one of you on each. Midfielders, you're the middle of everything; every ball runs through you.

Coach does
Walk the pattern — Player 1 plays into the farther of the two midfield players, who plays to the near midfielder, who plays out to the corner player, Player 2. Player 2 plays into Player 1, who is approaching Player 2's corner; Player 1 plays across the grid to Player 3; Player 3 returns it to the approaching Player 2 — and Player 2 starts it again into the midfielder farthest from the ball.
Coach says
Into the far midfielder, to the near one, out to the corner. Keep moving after your pass — you're always headed to the next corner.
3Play▾
Coach does
Let the play repeat around the grid and coach the quality — crisp, accurate passes to feet with good pace, and runs timed so the approaching player and the ball arrive together.
Coach says
Crisp, to feet! Time your run — arrive with the ball!
Look for: The runs — timed so the approaching player and the pass arrive at the corner together.
4Switch and repeat▾
Coach does
Keep the pattern repeating around the grid. In later rounds, reverse the direction of play, or play in one-touch only.
Coach says
Flip it — same pattern, other way around!
If it's not working
If the pattern keeps breaking, freeze it and ask — who does every ball go through? Let them say it, then play on.
Want to go deeper? Optional — not needed to run the game.
