2v2 Quick Attack
Fixed pairs battle 2v2 to small goals on a big field — score and you stay on, get scored on and a fresh pair from your team pours on with the ball.
The oversized field is on purpose — it creates breakaways and pushes players to attack space going to goal, in a fast, dynamic game the kids will love.
Set up · 3 actions · before the kids arrive
- Grab: Cones, pinnies for one team, a large supply of balls, and two small or Pugg goals.
- Build: Build a grid approximately 25 by 40 yards — large for 2v2 on purpose — with a goal on each end line.
- Place: Each team defends one goal; two players from each team step on, and their teammates line up across their own defensive end line with the balls.

One thing to remember: Quick attacking and defending — transitioning fast after scoring, attacks that off-balance the defense, choosing when to beat a defender on the dribble and when to pass around, and playing with speed.
How it runs — the whole game in one sentence
Pairs play 2v2 to the small goals — get scored on and you step off as two teammates fly on with a fresh ball to quick-attack the scorers — first team to 20 wins.
1Organize the players▾
Coach does
Split the team into two equal groups, one in the alternate color, and assign every player a partner — those two stay teammates for the entire drill. Give each team a goal to defend, send one pair from each team onto the field, and line the rest up across their defensive end line with a large supply of balls.
Coach says
Find your partner — you two are a team all day. Everyone else, on your end line with the balls.

Coach does
Walk the flow — play 2v2 to the small goals. When a pair gets scored on, they step off and two teammates step on with a ball, hunting a quick attack on the team that just scored; the scoring pair stays on and must quickly transition to stop it. A ball out of bounds restarts from a teammate on the end line, and pairs only switch after their group gets scored on.
Coach says
Score and you stay — but the second it goes in, a fresh pair is coming at you. Be ready!
3Play▾
Coach does
Keep it quick and fast-paced with a lot of goals — that is the game working. Watch for the quick transition after scoring, quick attacks that off-balance the defense, and the choice between beating a defender on the dribble and passing around defenders.
Coach says
Play with speed! Attack that open space — go, go, go!
Look for: The choice made at pace — when to beat a defender on the dribble and when to pass around them.
4Switch and repeat▾
Coach does
Let the pairs switch themselves — only after their group is scored on — and keep the running score. With more players, modify the size of the grid and play 3v3 or 4v4.
Coach says
Count your goals — first team to twenty wins it! Fresh pairs, fly on with your ball!
If it's not working
If the game stalls between goals, freeze it and ask — whose pair is on the moment that ball goes in? Let them answer, then play on.
