Shooting Combo
Three shots in one flow — make a move and shoot, combine for a one-two, then take on a live defender — and after every shot, you have a second job.
Every shot here comes with a next task — wall the next shooter's one-two, or turn and defend — so finishing and paying attention become one habit.
Set up · 3 actions · before the kids arrive
- Grab: Cones, a ball for every player, and a full-size goal.
- Build: Mark three line-starting spots about 30 yards from the goal.
- Place: Split the players into three lines, every player with a ball. Goalkeeper in the goal.

One thing to remember: Making a move before shooting, 1-2 combination play, taking on a defender 1v1 — with good shooting technique throughout — landing on the kicking foot, following through toward goal, putting the ball on target.
How it runs — the whole game in one sentence
Line 1 makes a move and shoots, then walls line 2's one-two for a first-time shot — and that shooter turns to defend line 3, who beats them 1v1 and shoots.
1Organize the players▾
Coach does
Three even lines about 30 yards out, each player with a ball, and a goalkeeper in the goal.
Coach says
Three lines, thirty yards out. Everybody has a ball. Keeper — in you go.
2Show the jobs▾
Coach does
Walk one cycle — the first player in line 1 makes a move and shoots before the edge of the penalty box, then checks toward line 2 for a 1-2 ball, laying it off for line 2's first-time shot. After that shot, line 2's player moves to defend the player from line 3, who tries to beat them and get a shot on goal.
Coach says
Move and shoot. Then your next job — wall the one-two for the next shooter, or turn and defend the one after.
3Play▾
Coach does
Run the cycles without changing lines yet — let each player work through their line 3 to 4 times before any switch.
Coach says
Finish it — land on your shooting foot, follow through at the goal!
Look for: The finish — landing on the kicking foot, the follow-through carrying toward goal, the ball on target.
4Switch and repeat▾
Coach does
After 3 to 4 trips each, rotate the lines so everyone gets all three shots — the move, the one-two, and the 1v1.
Coach says
Rotate lines! New shot, same standard.
If it's not working
If players drift off after shooting, freeze it and ask one of them what their next job is — let them say it, then restart the cycle.
