Dribbling Warm-Up
Small lines take turns dribbling a named skill out to a stick and back — with the next player leaving at halfway, so nobody ever stands still.
An excellent dribbling warm-up that gets players many touches on the ball in a short time.
Set up · 3 actions · before the kids arrive
- Grab: A practice stick or flag for each group and a ball for every player.
- Build: Plant each stick about 10 yards in front of its line — enough groups that players work in threes and fours.
- Place: Each group in a small line facing its stick, every player with a soccer ball.

One thing to remember: The skill catalog — bell touches, foundation work on top of the ball, sole rolls both directions, and outside-inside patterns — built on close control, quality touches, controlled body movements, and a lifted head while dribbling.
How it runs — the whole game in one sentence
The first player dribbles the named skill out to the stick, rounds it, and dribbles back; the next player starts when the one ahead is halfway there, so the whole group moves at all times.
1Organize the players▾
Coach does
Set the lines — groups of 3 to 4 players behind each stick, a ball at every player's feet.
Coach says
Lines of three or four, ball at your feet. That stick out there is your turnaround.

Coach does
Walk the flow — the first person performs the dribbling skill to the flag, dribbles around it, and dribbles back to the beginning line. When that player is halfway to the flag, the next player begins — that trigger is what keeps everyone in the group moving at all times.
Coach says
When the player ahead of you hits halfway — you go. Nobody stands still in this one.
3Play▾
Coach does
Call the skills and run each for 3 to 5 minutes — bell touches moving forward, foundation side-to-side moving backward, foundation on top of the ball forward and backward, rolls with the bottom of the foot facing left and then right, outside-inside dribble, and outside-outside-inside. Watch for close control, quality touches, and controlled body movements.
Coach says
Quality touches — keep it close, and lift that head up while you dribble!
Look for: Close control and quality touches — the head lifting up while the ball stays under the body.
4Switch and repeat▾
Coach does
Cycle to the next skill on the list and keep the lines rolling.
Coach says
New skill! Outside-inside now — outside right, inside right, outside left, inside left.
If it's not working
If a line bunches up or stalls, freeze it and ask — when do you go? Let them say the halfway rule out loud, then play on.
Want to go deeper? Optional — not needed to run the game.
