Arc Against the Dribble

Shooters dribble across the top of the penalty area and shoot whenever they choose — the keeper tracks along the arc, always between the ball and the goal.

A moving ball drags the right position with it — moving along the arc is how a keeper holds the proper angle when the shot can come at any moment.

Set up · 3 actions · before the kids arrive

  1. Grab: A large supply of balls and a full-size goal.
  2. Build: Nothing to build — the keeper's arc stays imaginary here, 2 to 6 yards off the goal line.
  3. Place: The keeper in the goal; 2 to 3 servers on one corner of the penalty area with the balls.

One thing to remember: Movement along the keeper's arc, keeping the proper angle on a moving ball, and quick shuffling without crossing the feet.

How it runs — the whole game in one sentence

One server at a time dribbles across the top of the penalty area and shoots at their own discretion; the keeper moves along the arc, saves, and resets for the next shooter.

  1. 1Organize the players

    Coach does

Put the keeper in the goal and send the 2 to 3 servers to one corner of the penalty area with the ball supply.

    Coach says

You're the shooters — that corner is home. Keeper — your arc is in your head, 2 to 6 off the line.

  2. 2Show the jobs

    Coach does

Walk one rep — the server dribbles across the top of the penalty area, and the keeper moves along the imaginary arc keeping their body between the ball and the goal. The dribbler can shoot at any point they choose.

    Coach says

Dribble across the top — shoot whenever you want. Keeper — slide with the ball. Stay between it and your goal.

  3. 3Play

    Coach does

Run the shooters through one at a time. After each save the keeper moves quickly back into place along the arc for the next one.

    Coach says

Saved — reset! Next shooter, off you go.

Look for: The keeper tracking the dribbler from 2 to 6 yards out — never caught flat on the goal line when the shot comes.

  4. 4Switch and repeat

    Coach does

Keep the servers cycling — back to the corner, grab another ball, go again — so the keeper faces dribble after dribble from a fresh start.

    Coach says

Back to your corner, reload. Keeper — same job, every time.

If it's not working

If the keeper keeps drifting back onto the goal line, freeze it mid-dribble and ask them where they're standing — let them say it, then play on.

Want to go deeper? Optional — not needed to run the game.

Why are we doing this?
Because the dribbler moves and the shot can come at any moment, the keeper cannot set once and wait — the correct spot slides along the arc with the ball, and holding it takes quick feet that never cross and a body that stays between the ball and the goal.
What are they learning?
Movement along the keeper's arc, keeping the proper angle on a moving ball, and quick shuffling without crossing the feet.
