Clap the Drop
You hold the ball up, they clap when it drops — and your fake sends people out.
Two minutes that get them giggly and watching — proof of how small an activation game can be.
Set up · 3 actions · before the kids arrive
- Grab: One ball. That's it.
- Build: Nothing.
- Place: The team gathered in front of you, close enough to see the ball clearly.
One thing to remember: Watching a trigger, not a face — the smallest possible focus drill.
How it runs — the whole game in one sentence
Clap when the ball drops — clap on a fake, and you're out.
1Organize the players▾
Coach does
Gather the team facing you, all eyes on the ball.
Coach says
Everyone where you can see the ball.
2Show the jobs▾
Coach does
One demo drop, one demo fake, so the trap is understood.
Coach says
Ball drops — clap. I fake — hands stay still, or you're out.
3Play▾
Coach does
Mix real drops and fakes with a straight face. Eliminate the claps on fakes.
Coach says
Watching? ... Gotcha — you're out!
Look for: Eyes locked on the ball, not on your face.
4Switch and repeat▾
Coach does
Run it to a last player standing, then start the next block while the energy is up.
Coach says
One survivor! Okay — balls out, here's what's next.
If it's not working
Two minutes is the whole game — end it before they are done with it, not after.
Want to go deeper? Optional — not needed to run the game.
Why are we doing this?
What are they learning?
How can I change it?
Easier: Drop honestly for a round before the fakes start.
Harder: Add a movement between drops — sit, spin, jumping jack — then drop mid-recovery.
