Bop Tag

Everyone planks in pairs, one runner, one tagger — and the plank next to you can send you sprinting.

Laughing and moving — three minutes, no ball, and the whole group is warm and locked in.

U11–U12Pairs, plus 23 minNone

Set up · 3 actions · before the kids arrive

  1. Grab: Nothing — no ball, no cones.
  2. Build: Nothing — open grass.
  3. Place: Pairs lie in plank position side by side, scattered around the space. Two players stay standing.

One thing to remember: Core work and reaction — disguised completely.

How it runs — the whole game in one sentence

The runner escapes by planking next to a pair — the player on the far side of that group pops up and becomes the runner.

  1. 1Organize the players

    Coach does

Everyone pairs up and planks side by side. The two spare players stand — one tagger, one runner.

    Coach says

Pairs — planks, side by side. You two are up first.

  2. 2Show the jobs

    Coach does

Walk one escape so everyone sees who pops up.

    Coach says

Runner dives into a plank next to a pair — then the far one of that group is up and running. Don't get tagged.

  3. 3Play

    Coach does

Keep it continuous. If the tagger makes a tag, the roles flip on the spot.

    Coach says

    Go! New runner — move!

Look for: The far-side player reacting the instant their group becomes three.

  4. 4Switch and repeat

    Coach does

Call it around three minutes — they are warm, which was the whole job.

    Coach says

    Last runner! Bring it in.

If it's not working

Freeze one round and walk it — new plank lands, far side pops up — then restart at speed.

Want to go deeper? Optional — not needed to run the game.

Why are we doing this?
Planks are work, and nobody notices because the game is the thing. Three minutes, no equipment, and the group arrives at the next block already switched on.
What are they learning?
Core work and reaction — disguised completely.
How can I change it?

Easier: Bigger gaps between planked pairs, so the runner has more room to escape.

Harder: Add a second tagger-and-runner pair to the same space.
